PNG is a good one and works well in Vegas. After you bring the PNG into Vegas, you may or may not need to fiddle with its event properties. If it comes in without the background, you're okay. If it's still white (or black), right-click the image's event, choose properties, and go to the Media tab. There, try different options for the "alpha channel" setting. If this doesn't help, or if you need more, don't hesitate to ask.
