Getting Black and White

Floating blue field is set. On to Track #2. To make the B&W event earn its name, go to the Video FX window, select Black and White from the list, and drag the 100% Black and White preset onto the B&W event. As you drop it, hold down the Shift key to bypass the Video Event FX window. This will give you grayscale output, but I personally am looking for a starker image. So I’m also going to select Brightness and Contrast from the Video FX window and give this event some major contrast. The settings you use will depend on your footage and the look you want, but here are the ones I’m using:

  • Brightness: -0.15
  • Contrast: 0.50
  • Contrast Center: 0.30

When you’re through (assuming you decided to even change the Brightness and Contrast), close out the Video Event FX window. We won’t need to add any FX or do anything else to the Color event.

I am NEW to Vegas Pro. Can someone please tell me how to create the linear swipe of 2 lines of lyrics at the lower part of the screen (from one color to another), just like a normal karaoke file? Of course the swipe has to occur at the exact times where the words are supposed to be sung. Please tell me the exact procedure. I see the transition Linear Swipe. It seems that I cannot ask it to occur at the exact times I need for a song.
    Thanks a lot!

Check the manual / online help for Transition Progress Envelopes. These give you greater control over transitions. You should be able to do exactly what you want by setting points where each word is sung and then moving the progress of the transition at those points so the color changes when you want it to.
